Many, many years in the making was the Kennel Club of Assured breeders scheme, bringing into play a monitored scheme where homes were physically visited and health tests were required and compliance monitored,
This month we saw the announcement that this scheme will be abolished. their website reports they intend to replace it with a more inclusive system.However, I expect that they will stop a long way short of what they should be doing, which is making it mandatory for all of those who register with them to health test and exercise ethical breeding practices and high standards of animal welfare and puppy rearing,What remains to be seen is how many breeders will vote with their feet and cease to use the KC altogether.
